The last 7days felt like an eternity and I kid you not when I say it was a trip to hell & back and man am I glad to be back!
After a blockbuster Thursday filled with office events and activities Friday was a day to relax while picking up where I left off on Wednesday. I get up, look at pictures and relive memories from the previous night, take a shower and get ready. I open my changing room and little did I know I’ve taken the highway to hell. My whole world comes crumbling down on me – literally!
As it happened my changing room door is made of glass and somehow it got stuck somewhere while opening and the whole things shattered into a million pieces and it rained glass on me for the next 30 seconds.
I can still hear the sound and still feel how it felt to be standing there!
On instinct my eyes had closed and when I opened them all I could see was glass everywhere and I could not move a muscle because there wasn’t any space to and also because I was in utter and complete shock!
After a few minutes I regain my senses and also when I start hearing my mom’s voice calling out to me asking if I’m okay, I respond somehow and try to move to the bathroom where there’s lesser pieces of glass.
I suddenly realise my entire body is studded with tiny pieces of glass – my head, hair, eyes, mouth, hands and legs. Oh and this was not it – in a sea of white I’m suddenly seeing red – it’s blood everywhere on my hands and my foot is gushing out blood too.
Somehow my tigress of a mother courageously got all of it cleaned up, removed all of the glass from every part of me, took me to the hospital to get my foot checked out. Long story short I ended up with bruises all over and 3 stitches on my foot.
Ok so I survived something huge, now I’m stronger and nothing can be worse than this!
Saturday goes by fine, Sunday comes and now I’m starting to feel uneasy. Monday morning? Oh we’ve just parked at the top floor of hell – because I was down with viral fever and severe cold, and I mean severe!!! And as if all this wasn’t fun enough for Satan, aunty flo also decided to join the party and now the fun had officially begun!
I will not bore you with the gory details of what happened next because I am sure everyone reading this will know exactly what it’s like to fall extremely sick and how the only thing you want during those moments is either a recovery or a transfer to holy heaven!
Why am I telling you all this?
It is because today is Friday, exactly 1 week later – my foot is still in stitches, my cold is still recovering and my core is still weak and bruises are still healing but, I finally slept through the night, last night and when I woke up this morning I cannot explain what I felt!
It was quiet like an exam hall, I woke up and when I put my feet on the ground to stand up I didn’t feel like I’ll fall to the side and it felt like VICTORY and I smiled!
All the daily boring chores like washing my face, brushing my teeth, warming up water, drawing my curtains, opening up my windows felt like a top class luxury!
When I opened my windows there was this fresh breeze waiting to greet me like a good morning kiss from a long waiting lover and when I sat next to the window I heard the sound of birds chirping and the city which was just about to wake up and start bustling with festivities and I closed my eyes and recalled that Michael Buble song we all love so much!!
Birds flying high
You know how I feel
Sun in the sky
You know how I feel
Breeze driftin’ on by
You know how I feel
… It’s a new dawn
It’s a new day
It’s a new life
For me
And I’m feeling good
I’m feeling good
And I was so incredibly grateful for having my life back again!
I cannot describe in words how much I enjoyed my commute to the office today – I just cannot!
Maybe you won’t truly get the feelings which I’m feeling so just take it from me, things like being stuck in traffic, taking a breath of air after entering the air conditioned office and wiping that sweat off, entering the lift with others and waiting to reach your floor, and the details of the everyday mundane life are things not to be taken lightly!
These are really the things that make life and are truly essence of it! So enjoy it while you can!!
Hallelujah!
Wow, what a mess, but I love your reflection and great to hear of your recovery.
Oh my it really was a crazy mess! But thank you so much for your kind words!!
My pleasure 🙂
